Anna University is a technical University in Tamil Nadu, India.   It was established on 4th September 1978 as a unitary type of University.   The Univerity was named after C N Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.  It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society.  Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.  The University was formed by bringing together and integrating two well-known technical institutions in the city of Madras.   The main university campus is located in Guindy, Chennai.  The Bioprocess Laboratory donated by SPIC is located at present in this campus and a few more centers of advanced studies, like National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Sugar Research Institute, Mechatronics Institute, Entreprenuership Development Park, and Convention Centre will also be housed there in future.  Since December 2001,it has become a large, highly renowned Affiliated University, having brought into its fold about 426 Self-financing Engineering Colleges six Government Colleges and three Government-aided Engineering colleges located in various parts of Tamilnadu State.


 The Anna University ,which is of the affiliated type is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Partner of UNESCO International Center for Engineering Education (UICEE). UGC have accredited Anna University with Five Star Status in 2002 which is the highest rating. With proven capabilities both in academic and research areas, Anna University was able to receive this honour for a period of five years for excellence in Technical Education.

The Anna University conducts the admissions to its courses through the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test TANCET  for all the candidates who wish to study in the courses of the Anna University.  The Syllabus for TANCET will be uploaded in the University website.  Applicants an download the syllabus and start preparing for their exam.


TANCET Application Form and Prospectus can be obtained from the Anna University.  The Application fee is Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- for SC/ST).


The date sheet will be uploaded in the official site before the commencement of exam.  Students can download the timetables by visiting the site.


Hall Tickets for the Entrance Test will be dispatched to all the Eligible Candidates who have applied.  If any Candidate does not receive the hall ticket, he/she can get a TANCET duplicate Hall Ticket from the enquiry office of the University Centres.


The Result will be declared Rank – wise, Roll No.wise and category wise.  Candidates can check their result on University website .


TANCET Mark Sheets will be dispatched to the Candidates within 10 days from the date of publication of results of the entrance test to the address given in theapplication.  The mark sheet should be produced at the time of Admission.  If the mark sheet is lost. a duplicate mark sheet can be obtained on payment of Rs.100/- in the form of Demand Draft, with a written request to the Director, Entrance Examination, Anna University, Chennai – 600025.



Candidates who have applied for Tamil Nadu Admissions Test and qualified the examination  will be called for counselling through a call correspondence on the basis for merit list. Candidates may examine the Anna University Counseling Routine, Process and Essential Schedules online through the official site of University.

Documents Required For Counseling

Contenders must bring the required documents while appearing for Anna University Counseling.

  • Original counseling letter along with photocopy
  • Original Admit card
  • Bank draft has to be made as per the guidelines mentioned on Anna University prospect
  • All the original and at least 2 photocopy of certificates of 10th & 12th class
  • Rank Card / Hall Ticket
  • Score card (if applicable)
  • Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC/Other) signed by the authorized authority
  • Medical documents mentioned on ANNA UNIVERSITY application form
  • 4-6 Passport size photographs


  1.  Download the Application Form in the Prescribed Format from the official site .
  2. Enter the essential details in the application form and attach the scanned copies of the documents.
  3. Submit this duly filled form to the respective address on or before the closing date.
