The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to uniform nomenclature of five security forces in India under the authority of Ministry of Home Affairs. They are the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). They take care of our security often in poor conditions. The CAPFs have their own cadre of officers, but they are headed by officers of the Indian Police Service. The recruitment of the candidates in the CAPF is done by the Union Public Service Commission as well the Sashastra Seema Bal for the various posts according to the qualification of the candidates. For the higher levels posts, it is done via army.

Recently, the Government of India has approved grant of Risk/Hardship Allowance to the combatized personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), upto the rank of Commandant, based upon their area of deployment in difficult areas.
The Risk Allowances in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas include Counter Insurgency Operation (CI Ops) Field Area Allowance and Counter Insurgency Operation.

Salary Structure :-
Before going to the Salary lets have a glance at the various forces which comes under CAPF .
I) Border Security Force (BSF) – The primary role of the Border Security Force is to police border areas of the country, except the mountains. It has all police powers in its jurisdiction. It has 245,000 personnel in 186 battalions, and is headed by an Indian Police Service Officer.
II) Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) – The objective of the Sashastra Seema Bal (English: Armed Border Force) is to guard the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan Borders. It has 82,000 personnel and 73 battalions, as well as some reserved battalions.
III) Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) : The Indo-Tibetan Border Police is deployed for guarding duties on the border with China from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Diphu La in Arunachal Pradesh covering a total distance of 2488 km. It has 77,000 personnel in 56 fighting and 4 reserve battalions.
IV) Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) : One of the largest industrial security forces in the world, the Central Industrial Security Force provides security to various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other critical infrastructure installations across the country. It has a total strength of about 165,000 personnel in 132 battalions.
V) Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) : The Central Reserve Police Force is the largest of the Central Armed Police Forces units with 325,000 personnel in 245 battalions. The Central Reserve Police includes:
- The Rapid Action Force (RAF), a 10 battalion anti-riot force trained to respond to sectarian violence.
- The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA), a 10 battalion strong anti-Naxalite/COIN force
Pay Scale in CISF BSF SSB ITBP Delhi Police CRPF 2017:
Sub-Inspector : The position takes pay scale of Rs. 9300-34800 in Pay Band 2 with Grade Pay of Rs 4200 and is classified as Group `B’ Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial.
Assistant Sub-Inspector : The position takes pay scale of s 5200-20200 in PB-2 with Grade Pay of s 2800 and is classified as Group ‘C’.
