CDS 1 2017 exam preparation tips online – Previous year test paper with solution keys

The “Combined Defence Services”Examination (CDS) is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy. The Notification for the examination is usually released in the months of October and June, and the examinations are conducted in February and November respectively. Only unmarried graduates are eligible to sit for the exam. Successful candidates are admitted into the respective Academies after an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).

Every year UPSC releases notifications for the Combined Defense Services Examination.  Recently also the UPSC has released a EXAMINATION NOTICE NO.2/2017.CDS-I  on 9/11/2016.  The online application were invited from the eligible candidates for CDS I Exam.  The exam is going to be held on 05/02/2017.

In this post we will discuss about the exam preparation tips so that the candidates applied for this CDS I exam can prepare themselves.

  • Age Limit for CDS Exam

Indian Military Academy             :   19-24 years
Air Force Academy                     :   19-24 years
Naval Academy                          :   19-22 years
Officers’ Training Academy        :   19-27 years

  • Educational Qualification for CDS Exam

– Degree of a recognized University or equivalent for IMA and OTA

– B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engg for Naval Academy

– B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engg for Air Force Academy

Note :

For CDS exam, applicants can be from any stream but for entry to Air Force and Navy, candidates should have studied physics and maths up to Class 12. Candidates who are studying in the final year degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply for CDS Exam.

EXAMINATION PATTERN

1. The Competitive examination comprises :

(a) Written examination

(b) Interview for intelligence and personality test of such candidates as may be called for interview at one of the Services Selection Centres.

2. The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:

(a) For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy:—

General instructions about written examination

  • The papers in all the subjects will consist of Objective (multiple choice answer) Type questions only.
  • SI units will be used in the papers and Candidates should use only International form of Indian numerals (i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.) while answering question papers.
  • Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.
  • Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not, therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.

 

STANDARD AND SYLLABUS OF THE EXAMINATION

 

STANDARD –  The standard of the papers in Elementary Mathematics will be of Matriculation level. The standard of papers in other subjects will approximately be such as may be expected of a graduate of an Indian University.

 

SYLLABUS – 

 

ENGLISH (Code No. 01) The question paper will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Code No. 02) General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study.

ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS (Code No. 03)

ARITHMETIC Number System —  Natural numbers, Integers, Rational and Real numbers. Fundamental operations, addition, substraction, multiplication, division, Square roots, Decimal fractions. Unitary method, time and distance, time and work, percentages, applications to simple and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, variation.

Elementary Number Theory — Division algorithm. Prime and composite numbers. Tests of divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11. Multiples and factors. Factorisation Theorem. H.C.F. and L.C.M. Euclidean algorithm. Logarithms to base 10, laws of logarithms, use of logarithmic tables.

ALGEBRA –  Basic Operations, simple factors, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M., Theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, relation between its roots and coefficients (Only real roots to be considered). Simultaneous linear equations in two unknowns—analytical and graphical solutions. Simultaneous linear inequations in two variables and their solutions. Practical problems leading to two simultaneous linear equations or inequations in two variables or quadratic equations in one variable & their solutions. Set language and set notation, Rational expressions and conditional identities, Laws of indices.

TRIGONOMETRY –  Sine ×, cosine ×, Tangent × when 0° < × < 90° Values of sin ×, cos × and tan ×, for × = 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° Simple trigonometric identities. Use of trigonometric tables. Simple cases of heights and distances.

GEOMETRY –  Lines and angles, Plane and plane figures, Theorems on (i) Properties of angles at a point, (ii) Parallel lines, (iii) Sides and angles of a triangle, (iv) Congruency of triangles, (v) Similar triangles, (vi) Concurrence of medians and altitudes, (vii) Properties of angles, sides and diagonals of a parallelogram, rectangle and square, (viii) Circles and its properties including tangents and normals, (ix) Loci.

MENSURATION –  Areas of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangle and circle. Areas of figures which can be split up into these figures (Field Book), Surface area and volume of cuboids, lateral surface and volume of right circular cones and cylinders, surface area and volume of spheres.

STATISTICS –  Collection and tabulation of statistical data, Graphical representation frequency polygons, histograms, bar charts, pie charts etc. Measures of central tendency.

INTELLIGENCE AND PERSONALITY TEST

The SSB procedure consists of two stage Selection process – stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The details are:-

(a) Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception* Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on combination of performance in OIR Test and PP&DT.

(b) Stage II Comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days. The details of these tests are given on the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. The personality of a candidate is assessed by three different assessors viz. The Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and the Psychologist. There are no separate weightage for each test. The mks are allotted by assessors only after taking into consideration the performance of the candidate holistically in all the test. In addition, marks for Conference are also allotted based on the initial performance of the Candidate in the three techniques and decision of the Board. All these have equal weightage. The various tests of IO, GTO and Psych are designed to bring out the presence/absence of Officer Like Qualities and their trainability in a candidate. Accordingly candidates are Recommended or Not Recommended at the SSB.

Indian Coast Guard Yantrik Syllabus Exam Pattern Model Past Papers – Download PDF

Indian Coast Guard has released a Recruitment Notification in the month of January.  Applications were invited from Indian male candidates   for recruitment to the post of Yantrik in the Indian Coast Guard, an Armed Force of the Union.  Applying candidates should possess three years Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical / Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering or equivalent branch recognized by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) with 60% in aggregate.  The age of applying candidates should not be less than 18 years and more than 22 years i.e. between 01 Aug 1994 to 31 Jul 1998. Upper age limit is relaxed up to 5 years for SC / ST and 3 years for OBC category candidates.  The candidates have to apply online from the official website www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in .  The last date for submitting online application was 08/02/2016.  Many well deserving candidates might have applied for these vacancies.  So, for all those candidates we have brought the details of exam syllabus and exam pattern in this post.  The written exam will be conducted in the month of April 2016.

In this section an unclear presentation is shown to each candidate for about 30 seconds and the aspirants have to write a story on it. After that a Group discussion is conducted in which each candidate discuss about the story. On the basis of that the interviewers select the suitable candidates.

Final Selection Stage

Psychologist test, Group Testing and Interview (Personality test)

This section consists of the following sub sections/tests-

  • Thematic Apperception Test (TAT):

In this attempt 12 slides are to be shown to the applicants for 30 seconds. After visualizing the images they have to write a story on those images that what they learnt from those slides.

  • Word Association Test (WAT):

In this test a series of 60 words are shown to the candidates one by one for 15 seconds each. The candidate is required to write a sentence or phrase with the help of those words.

  • Situation Reaction Test (SRT):

In This section 60 situations are given to the aspirants and they have to write their reactions depending on those situations.

  • Self Description:

In this personality test section contenders have to describe themselves within the 15 Minutes like about their educational background, hobbies, positive and negative strengths, family etc.

The paper pattern of the test is takes place in two stages which are tailored below-

Important :

  • Those  who  qualify  written  tests  will  undergo  Physical  Fitness  Test  (PFT),  interview  and initial Medical Examination. The testing procedure will take1-2 days.
  • The Physical Fitness Test  will be conducted for all those who pass the written tests.  Qualifying PFT as per the standards given below is compulsory.

The PFT will consist as under :-

1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes
20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak)
10 Push ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk

–  Candidates  those  who  qualify  the Physical  Fitness  Test  will  be  required  to undergo initial recruitment medical examination at the respective recruitment centre.

–  Based  on  the  performance  in  the  written  examination,  candidates  will be shortlisted for medical examination in a ratio  as may be decided by Coast Guard.

The Jammu & Kashmir Rifles is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army. The Jammu & Kashmir State Forces were the only former Princely State Forces of India to be absorbed into the Indian Army as a distinct and separate Regiment. Eligibility Criteria for Indian Army

Soldier (General Duty)

Soldier (General Duty) are the backbone of the army and consist mainly of fighting troops apart from other trades. You could be enrolled into Arms or Services. The duties will be as under :-

  1. Arms.  In Arms you could join the Infantry, Artillery, Armoured Corps, Engineers or Army Air Defence (AAD) as fighting troops, drivers, operators, gunners etc and many other General Duties.
  2. Services.  In Services you could  be enrolled into Army Service Corps (ASC), Ordnance, Army Medical Corps (AMC) on General Duties, operators, drivers etc.

Qualification –  SSLC / Matric with 45% marks in aggregate and 33% in each subject. No percentage required for higher qualification i.e. 10+2 and above.

Age  –  17 ½ – 21 Yrs.

Soldier Technical

The army has weapons, vehicles, equipment which are required to be operated and maintained. We require candidates with a science background and aptitude for electrical, mechanical and other technical fields.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate Exam Pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with 45% marks in aggregate and 40% in each subject.

Age  – 17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Clerk / Store Keeper Technical (All Arms)

There is a requirement of clerical staff to maintain the inventory , carryout documentation of personnel, book keeping and other routine correspondence. Thus there is requirement of candidates conversant in English and Maths/Book Keeping.

Qualification  – 10+2 / Intermediate Exam pass in any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) with 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject.Should have studied and passed English and Maths / Accounts / Book Keeping in Class X or Class XII with 40% marks in each subject.

Age  – 17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Nursing Assistant (Army Medical Corps)

The Army has its own hospitals and polyclinics. All kinds of specialists are present in Army Hospitals. Each hospital and polyclinic requires Nursing Assistants to assist the doctors, look after the patients, work in the Operation Theaters, account for medicines in the medical stores and administer first aid.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Min 50% marks in aggregate and min 40% in each subject.
OR
In case the candidate has a BSc Degree with (Botany / Zoology / Bio-Science) and English, the stipulation of percentage in Class XII is waived off. However, the candidate should have studied all the four specified subjects in Class XII also.

Age  –  17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Nursing Assistant Veterinary (Remount Veterinary Corps)

The Army has certain units which have horses, mules and dogs.  Thus Army requires candidates with Science background who will work in Veterinary Hospitals, look after the animals, work in the Operation Theaters, account for medicines in the medical stores and administer first aid when required.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Min 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject.

Age  –  17 ½ – 21 Yrs.

Soldier Tradesmen(All Arms)

Each unit and Headquarters (HQ) of the Army is self contained in maintaining itself in all respects. It is like a society which is fully self sustaining and not dependent on outside help. Each unit has a strength of 600-1000 personnel who live within a compound and get all support from within that compound/society. Thus each unit has its own langers, stores, living quarters and lines, offices, gardens, vehicles and equipment. There is thus a requirement of a lot of support staff to run various institutes and to maintain the unit area.

Qualification  –  10th / ITI (except Syce. Mess Keeper and House Keeper-who may be 8th pass).

Age  –  17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Junior Commissioned Officer Catering (Army Service Corps)

The Army runs certain large training Institutes and Messes which require to feed large strength of personnel. Also there is a requirement that the food provided is wholesome with the correct nutritional intake. There is thus a requirement of candidates who are qualified/trained in catering services and who will be able to run our Messes.

Qualification  –  10+2 or equivalent exam and Diploma / Certificate Course of a duration of one year or more in Cookery / Hotel Management and Catering Technical from a recognized University / Food Craft Institute. AICTE recognition is not mandatory.

Age  –  21-27 Yrs.

Recruitment Procedure

General As part of the screening process, candidates will be tested in Physical Fitness Tests (PFT).Physical Fitness Tests (PFT) is mandatory and will be carried out for all categories during the screening process of recruitment to assess the candidate’s physical ability and courage.

  • 1.6 km run for Endurance.
  • Pull Ups on Beam (Under Grip) for Strength.
  • 9 feet Ditch for Courage.

Medical Standard

  • A candidate should have robust physique and good mental health.
  • Chest should be well developed having minimum 5 cms expansion.
  • Should have normal hearing with each ear and good binocular vision in both eyes. He should be able to read 6/6 in distant vision chart with each eye. Colour vision should be CP – III (able to recognize white, red and green signal colours correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at 1.5 meters).
  • Should have sufficient number of natural healthy gum and teeth i.e. minimum 14 dental points.
  • Should not have diseases like deformity of bones, hydrocele and varicocele or piles.
  • Soldier General Duty for Infantry should have 6/6 eye sight.

How to apply

Interested and eligible candidates have to register themselves online from the official site www.joinindianarmynic.in. The online Indian Army Application form link will be available 2 months before the rally date. Candidates will get 45 days to register or to edit information for the army rally. Two weeks before the Bharti day, the online registration link will be closed and candidates won’t be able to change the information they provided.

Documents required for Online Application

  1. Matric Certificate – The following details will be filled strictly as per matric certificate
    • Candidate Name.
    • Father Name.
    • Mother Name.
    • Date of Birth.
    • Matric Certificate number as issued by Education Board.
  2. Valid E mail address – Each candidate is required to have personal Email Id which will be his user Id. All messages will be sent to the Email Id regarding Short Listing, Call Ups, Joining Instruction, Results, etc.
  3. Mobile Number – Each Candidate will be required to have an individual mobile number. Sharing of mobile number between candidates will not be permitted. OTP key and other message will be sent to mobile number.
  4. Details about your State, District and Tehsil/ Block of Domicile (Only for JCO / OR Enrolment Application).
  5. Scanned passport size photo of size between 10 Kb to 20 Kb in jpg format. This photo will be uploaded on the application form.
  6. Scanned photo of signature of size between 5 Kb to 10 Kb in jpg format. This photo will be uploaded on the application form.
  7. Detailed mark sheet of Class X, and other higher education qualification, required to be filled in the application form as per the eligibility criteria of the category/ entry applied for.

It was earlier part of the Assam Police until 1972 when the separate State of Meghalaya was created.  The Meghalaya Police is headed by the Director General of Police.  The Total Sanctioned Strength of Meghalaya Police is 12,911 personnel, with an actual strength of 10,956. ELIGIBILITY :

The following shall be the eligibility criteria for recruitment to various posts:

1. Only Indian Citizens domiciled in Meghalaya are eligible to apply.

2. Candidates should be able to speak read and write at least one of the regional languages of the State.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :

PHYSICAL TESTS :

8oo metres for male minimum required 8 minutes and 500 metres under video coverage and for female candidates minimum 8 minutes under Video coverage.

CONDUCT OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION :

Only those candidates who qualify in the Physical Efficiency Tests will be allowed to appear at the Written Examination which will be conducted at the time, venue and date to be notified by the Central Recruitment Board.

MEDICAL TEST :

Medical Tests will be conducted only in respect of Candidates who have been selected for appointment. No fees will be paid by any candidate for medical examination.

TEST FOR SPECIALIZED JOBS :

The Central Recruitment Board will conduct specific trade tests of qualifying nature for those candidates who have qualified in the written tests for selection of drivers, mechanics.

BONUS MARKS  :

The following categories of candidates shall be awarded 5 bonus marks which will be added to their total score: (i) Home Guards Volunteers (ii) Holders of a ‘B’ ‘C’ certificate of National Cadet Corps (iii) Children of Non-gazetted police personnel of Meghalaya Police. (iv) Sports persons who have represented the State at the national level. All claims for bonus marks should be indicated in the application form and supported with copies of documents in support of such claims. Original certificates from the competent authority shall be produced by the candidates claiming bonus marks, to verify the eligibility of candidates to these claims.

RECRUITMENT BOARD :

Police Establishment Board shall act as Recruitment Board.  To Conduct Physical Test/ Written Test and Interview, Officers will be appointed and these Officers will submit the results to Police Establishment Board in order of Merit for Final Approval.

DECLARATION OF RESULT :–  

After the approval of the Police Establishment Board, result will be tentatively declared.

APPOINTMENTS :

After all the formalities appointment shall be issued by the appropriate appointing authority.

BASIC TRAINING :

As Police training is compulsory for any Police Personnel newly appointed, all the appointed candidates should undergo basic training at Police Training School,  at the first convenient time.   Candidates who has been selected and cannot join the Training Centre within one month of the commencement of training for any reason shall be cancelled and shall forfeit the job.

Conditions of Nationality  :-

A candidate must either be

 (i) a citizen of India, or

(ii) a subject of Bhutan, or

Eligibility For Indian Army :-

Soldier (General Duty)

Soldier (General Duty) are the backbone of the army and consist mainly of fighting troops apart from other trades. You could be enrolled into Arms or Services. The duties will be as under :-

  1. Arms.  In Arms you could join the Infantry, Artillery, Armoured Corps, Engineers or Army Air Defence (AAD) as fighting troops, drivers, operators, gunners etc and many other General Duties.
  2. Services.  In Services you could  be enrolled into Army Service Corps (ASC), Ordnance, Army Medical Corps (AMC) on General Duties, operators, drivers etc.

Qualification –  SSLC / Matric with 45% marks in aggregate and 33% in each subject. No percentage required for higher qualification i.e. 10+2 and above.

Age  –  17 ½ – 21 Yrs.

Soldier Technical

The army has weapons, vehicles, equipment which are required to be operated and maintained. We require candidates with a science background and aptitude for electrical, mechanical and other technical fields.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate Exam Pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with 45% marks in aggregate and 40% in each subject.

Age  – 17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Clerk / Store Keeper Technical (All Arms)

There is a requirement of clerical staff to maintain the inventory , carryout documentation of personnel, book keeping and other routine correspondence. Thus there is requirement of candidates conversant in English and Maths/Book Keeping.

Qualification  – 10+2 / Intermediate Exam pass in any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) with 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject.Should have studied and passed English and Maths / Accounts / Book Keeping in Class X or Class XII with 40% marks in each subject.

Age  – 17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Nursing Assistant (Army Medical Corps)

The Army has its own hospitals and polyclinics. All kinds of specialists are present in Army Hospitals. Each hospital and polyclinic requires Nursing Assistants to assist the doctors, look after the patients, work in the Operation Theaters, account for medicines in the medical stores and administer first aid.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Min 50% marks in aggregate and min 40% in each subject.
OR
In case the candidate has a BSc Degree with (Botany / Zoology / Bio-Science) and English, the stipulation of percentage in Class XII is waived off. However, the candidate should have studied all the four specified subjects in Class XII also.

Age  –  17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Nursing Assistant Veterinary (Remount Veterinary Corps)

The Army has certain units which have horses, mules and dogs.  Thus Army requires candidates with Science background who will work in Veterinary Hospitals, look after the animals, work in the Operation Theaters, account for medicines in the medical stores and administer first aid when required.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Min 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject.

Age  –  17 ½ – 21 Yrs.

Soldier Tradesmen(All Arms)

Each unit and Headquarters (HQ) of the Army is self contained in maintaining itself in all respects. It is like a society which is fully self sustaining and not dependent on outside help. Each unit has a strength of 600-1000 personnel who live within a compound and get all support from within that compound/society. Thus each unit has its own langers, stores, living quarters and lines, offices, gardens, vehicles and equipment. There is thus a requirement of a lot of support staff to run various institutes and to maintain the unit area.

Qualification  –  10th / ITI (except Syce. Mess Keeper and House Keeper-who may be 8th pass).

Age  –  17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Junior Commissioned Officer Catering (Army Service Corps)

The Army runs certain large training Institutes and Messes which require to feed large strength of personnel. Also there is a requirement that the food provided is wholesome with the correct nutritional intake. There is thus a requirement of candidates who are qualified/trained in catering services and who will be able to run our Messes.

Qualification  –  10+2 or equivalent exam and Diploma / Certificate Course of a duration of one year or more in Cookery / Hotel Management and Catering Technical from a recognized University / Food Craft Institute. AICTE recognition is not mandatory.

Age  –  21-27 Yrs.

Recruitment Procedure

General As part of the screening process, candidates will be tested in Physical Fitness Tests (PFT).Physical Fitness Tests (PFT) is mandatory and will be carried out for all categories during the screening process of recruitment to assess the candidate’s physical ability and courage.

Medical Standard

  • A candidate should have robust physique and good mental health.
  • Chest should be well developed having minimum 5 cms expansion.
  • Should have normal hearing with each ear and good binocular vision in both eyes. He should be able to read 6/6 in distant vision chart with each eye. Colour vision should be CP – III (able to recognize white, red and green signal colours correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at 1.5 meters).
  • Should have sufficient number of natural healthy gum and teeth i.e. minimum 14 dental points.
  • Should not have diseases like deformity of bones, hydrocele and varicocele or piles.
  • Soldier General Duty for Infantry should have 6/6 eye sight.

How to apply

Interested and eligible candidates have to register themselves online from the official site www.joinindianarmynic.in. The online Indian Army Application form link will be available 2 months before the rally date. Candidates will get 45 days to register or to edit information for the army rally. Two weeks before the Bharti day, the online registration link will be closed and candidates won’t be able to change the information they provided.

  1. Matric Certificate – The following details will be filled strictly as per matric certificate
    • Candidate Name.
    • Father Name.
    • Mother Name.
    • Date of Birth.
    • Matric Certificate number as issued by Education Board.
  2. Valid E mail address – Each candidate is required to have personal Email Id which will be his user Id. All messages will be sent to the Email Id regarding Short Listing, Call Ups, Joining Instruction, Results, etc.
  3. Mobile Number – Each Candidate will be required to have an individual mobile number. Sharing of mobile number between candidates will not be permitted. OTP key and other message will be sent to mobile number.
  4. Details about your State, District and Tehsil/ Block of Domicile (Only for JCO / OR Enrolment Application).
  5. Scanned passport size photo of size between 10 Kb to 20 Kb in jpg format. This photo will be uploaded on the application form.
  6. Scanned photo of signature of size between 5 Kb to 10 Kb in jpg format. This photo will be uploaded on the application form.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF) was raised on 24 Oct,1962.  It  is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of India.  Presently, ITBP is deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 km of Indo-China Border and manning Border Outposts on altitudes ranging from 9000’ to 18700’ in the Western, Middle and Eastern sectors of the Indo-China Border.

ITBPF is a specialized mountain force and most of the officers and men are professionally trained mountaineers and skiers. Being the first responder for natural disaster, ITBPF has been carrying out numerous rescue and relief operations across the country.

Assistant Commandant  (General Duty)

Assistant Commandant (General Duty) is Group ‘A’ service.  They are recruited by the Combined Special Selection Board constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs through UPSC.

Basic pay  :  Rs.15,600-39,100 plus Grade pay of Rs. 5400/- and other allowances admissible in ITBPF (MHA) Govt. of India. 

Eligibility :  Candidates applying for the post of Assistant Commandent should be a Graduate from a Recognized University.

Age Limit :  The minimum age of the candidate should be 19 years and maximum age should not exceed to 25 years.

Relaxation in age  :

  • For members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes – 5 years
  • Ex-servicemen and demobilized personnel of Armed Forces with not less than 6 months in the Armed Forces – Service rendered in Army, Navy and Air Force plus 03 years

Written examination for Assistant Commandant is conducted in two papers viz.

  1. Intelligence test
  2. General Knowledge and Essay Writing.

Thereafter, the Special Selection Board conducts a Physical Efficiency Test, medical examination and an interview for selecting the candidates.

Educational Qualification  :  Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised University or Institution.

Physical Standard  :

The minimum physical standard for the candidates of all categories will be as follows :-

Male  – 165 cms (Height),  Chest  –  Unexpanded-81cms Expanded-86 cms (with 5 cm minimum expansion)

Female  –  157 cms (Height), Chest  –  N/A

Medical Standard (Male & Female) :

(i) Eye sight : The minimum visual standard for the candidates of all categories will be as follows :-

  • Visual Acuity unaided (NEAR VISION) :- Better Eye- N6,  Worse Eye – N9
  • Uncorrected visual acuity (DISTANT VISION) :- Better Eye – 6/6, Worse Eye – 6/12.

(ii)  Candidate must not have knock-knees, flat foot or squint in eyes and they should possess high colour vision.

(iii)  Tattoos : Only those Tattoos are permitted depicting religious symbol or figure and the name on traditional sites of the body like inner side of left forearm only or dorsum of the hands & must be less than ¼ of the particular part (elbow or hand)

Selection Process  :

(i)  The Original documents of the candidates called for Physical Standard Test will be checked by the recruitment board.

(ii)   Candidates who have qualified in documentation shall be allowed to appear in Physical Standard Test. Physical Standard Test will be carried out by the Recruitment Board to assess their Height, Chest and Weight according to the prescribed physical standard. Candidates who fail to qualify the PST shall be eliminated.

(iii)  Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – The candidates who qualify PST shall appear in following Physical Efficiency Test :-

(a)     100 Meter Race  

Male –  In 16 Seconds,  Female – In 18 Seconds

(b)    800 Meters Race      

Male – In 3 Minutes 45 Seconds

Female – In 4 Minutes 45 Seconds

(c) Long Jump

Male – 3.5 Meters (3 chances)

Female – 3.0 Meters (3 chances)

(d) Shot Put (7.26 Kgs)

Males only – 4.5 Meters (3 chances)

(iv) Biometric Identification  :  Those who qualify Physical Efficiency Test are required to undergo biometric identification.

(v)  Candidates who qualify Physical Efficiency Test shall be called for written examination.

(vi) Interview.

(vi)  Medical Examination.

(vii) Merit List : Merit lists in each category namely, Gen, SC, ST and OBC(NCL) will be drawn on the basis of total marks obtained by the candidates in the written examination and Interview. Candidates shall be shortlisted for Detailed Medical Examination (DME) as per the category wise vacancies on the basis of this merit.

Sub-Inspector (General Duty)

Sub-Inspector (General Duty) is Group ‘B’ service  (Basic pay, Rs.9,300-34,800). Direct Recruitment of Sub-Inspectors for Central Para Military Forces including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police is done by the Staff Selection Commission by conducting a common examination annually.

Qualification :  Graduate from a Recognized University.

Age Limit :  18 years  to 25 years

Selection Process :

Selection process of the constables in ITBPF consists of :

  • Height Bar Test
    The candidates will be put through the Height Bar test and qualified candidates will be sent for 5 Km race.
  • Race (PET)
    After height bar test, the candidates will be subjected to 5 kilometers race to be completed within 24 minutes.
  • Physical Standard Test (PST)
    Candidates, who are qualified in race, will be screened first for height, chest and weight measurements.
  • Documentation
    The candidates who qualify in the Physical standard Test will be required to produce all relevant documents, in original only
  • Biometric verification
    Finger impression in respect of registered candidates will be captured immediately and will be verified on subsequent recruitment tests to avoid impersonation
  • Written Test (100 Marks)
    (i) The candidates who qualify the Documentation stage will be required to appear in a written test.
    (ii) NON-OMR based multiple choice question paper will be set (Bilinguali.e. in Hindi, English) to assess the general awareness/General Knowledge, Knowledge of Elementary Mathematics, analytical aptitude and ability to observe and distinguish patterns and to test basic knowledge of candidate in English/ Hindi. The question paper will carry 100 objective types multiple choice questions and would carry 100 marks.
    (iii) Minimum qualifying marks for General and Ex-Servicemen- 35% and for SC/ ST and OBC category candidates is 33%

Senior Administrative Officer

The Senior Administrative Officer is Group-A Gazetted (Ministerial) post in ITBP with Pay Band-3 Rs. 15,600-39,100/- with Grade Pay Rs. 6600/- and other allowances admissible to Central Government employees on deputation basis.

Eligibility Conditions  :

Officers under the Central Government :

(a) (i) holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent cadre or department;

OR .

(ii) with five years’ regular service. in the grade rendered after appointment thereto on a regular basis in the pay band and grade Payor Pay Scale of Pay Band-3, Rs. 15,600-39,100/- plus Grade Pay Rs. 5400/- or equivalent in the parent cadre or department.

(b) Possessing following educational qualifications and experience : (i) Bachelor’s Degree of recognized University or equivalent; (ii) Five year’s experience in administration, establishment and accounts matters.

Other Cadres

There are a numbers of Technical Cadres viz., Medical, Telecommunication , Para-medical , Engineering, Veterinary, Motor Transport, Education, Clerical, Stenography, Hindi Translator & Tailor etc. Pay scales and perks of various ranks in these cadres are identical to that of General Duty Cadre.

Indian Army has recently published an Official Notification for 10 + 2 Technical Entry Scheme Course – 36 which is commencing from January 2017.   Applications are invited from unmarried Male Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.  The Candidates have to undergo  4 years of Basic Military Training and Technical Training.   On successful completion of 4 years of the course cadets will be granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lt.  This is a very goor opportunity for the youths who are 12th passed and were hunting for Army jobs.  Willing candidates can apply online from the official site www.joinindianarmy.nic.in or or before 30th June, 2016.  Further details of age, qualification, selection process, application fees etc are furnished below.

(c) Award of Degree : The candidates will be awarded Engineering degree after successful completion of training.

Cost of Training  :  .The entire cost of training including books and reading material is borne by the Army. Cadets are also provided with free accommodation and messing. In case the GC is withdrawn from training academy due to reasons other than Medical ground or the reasons not beyond his control, he will be liable to refund cost of training @ Rs. 8135/ -per week for the period of his stay at the Officer Training Academy, Gaya/Cadet Training Wing.

Eligibility Criteria :  Applicants must either be a citizen of India or a subject of Bhutan / Nepal or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India / a person of Indian origin who has migrated from other countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit  : Candidates age must not be below 16½ years and above 19½ years as on the first day of the month in which the course is commencing (i.e candidate should not be born before 01-07-1997 and not after 01-07-2000).

Educational Qualification : Candidates should have passed 10+2 Examination or its equivalent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a minimum aggregate of 70% marks from a recognized education board.

Selection Process  :

  • Candidates will be selected based on Psychological Test, Group Test and Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview.
  • A candidate recommended by the Services Selection Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical officers. Only those candidates will be admitted to the academy who are declared fit by the Medical board.
  • Note  :   There should be no evidence of weak constitution, bodily defects or under weight. (c) The minimum acceptable height is 157.5 cms. For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North Eastern regions of India, Garhwal and kumaon, the minimum acceptable height will be 5cms. less. In case of candidates from Lakhadweep the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms.

Aadhar Card : All candidates selected to join Indian Army are required to have their Aadhar Card prior to joining training. All candidates applying to join Indian Army are therefore advised to obtain Aadhar Card at the earliest.

The Indian Army functions under the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), formerly designated as Commander-in-Chief. Indian Army Open Rally Bharti 2016 – 2017

Every Year Indian Army conducts an open rally for candidate’s selection in different posts in different zone. Eligibility For Indian Army :-

Soldier (General Duty)

Soldier (General Duty) are the backbone of the army and consist mainly of fighting troops apart from other trades. You could be enrolled into Arms or Services. The duties will be as under :-

  1. Arms.  In Arms you could join the Infantry, Artillery, Armoured Corps, Engineers or Army Air Defence (AAD) as fighting troops, drivers, operators, gunners etc and many other General Duties.
  2. Services.  In Services you could  be enrolled into Army Service Corps (ASC), Ordnance, Army Medical Corps (AMC) on General Duties, operators, drivers etc.

Qualification –  SSLC / Matric with 45% marks in aggregate and 33% in each subject. No percentage required for higher qualification i.e. 10+2 and above.

Age  –  17 ½ – 21 Yrs.

Soldier Technical

The army has weapons, vehicles, equipment which are required to be operated and maintained. We require candidates with a science background and aptitude for electrical, mechanical and other technical fields.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate Exam Pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with 45% marks in aggregate and 40% in each subject.

Age  – 17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Clerk / Store Keeper Technical (All Arms)

There is a requirement of clerical staff to maintain the inventory , carryout documentation of personnel, book keeping and other routine correspondence. Thus there is requirement of candidates conversant in English and Maths/Book Keeping.

Qualification  – 10+2 / Intermediate Exam pass in any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) with 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject.Should have studied and passed English and Maths / Accounts / Book Keeping in Class X or Class XII with 40% marks in each subject.

Age  – 17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Nursing Assistant (Army Medical Corps)

The Army has its own hospitals and polyclinics. All kinds of specialists are present in Army Hospitals. Each hospital and polyclinic requires Nursing Assistants to assist the doctors, look after the patients, work in the Operation Theaters, account for medicines in the medical stores and administer first aid.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Min 50% marks in aggregate and min 40% in each subject.
OR
In case the candidate has a BSc Degree with (Botany / Zoology / Bio-Science) and English, the stipulation of percentage in Class XII is waived off. However, the candidate should have studied all the four specified subjects in Class XII also.

Age  –  17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Soldier Nursing Assistant Veterinary (Remount Veterinary Corps)

The Army has certain units which have horses, mules and dogs.  Thus Army requires candidates with Science background who will work in Veterinary Hospitals, look after the animals, work in the Operation Theaters, account for medicines in the medical stores and administer first aid when required.

Qualification  –  10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Min 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject.

Age  –  17 ½ – 21 Yrs.

Soldier Tradesmen(All Arms)

Each unit and Headquarters (HQ) of the Army is self contained in maintaining itself in all respects. It is like a society which is fully self sustaining and not dependent on outside help. Each unit has a strength of 600-1000 personnel who live within a compound and get all support from within that compound/society. Thus each unit has its own langers, stores, living quarters and lines, offices, gardens, vehicles and equipment. There is thus a requirement of a lot of support staff to run various institutes and to maintain the unit area.

Qualification  –  10th / ITI (except Syce. Mess Keeper and House Keeper-who may be 8th pass).

Age  –  17 ½ – 23 Yrs.

Junior Commissioned Officer Catering (Army Service Corps)

The Army runs certain large training Institutes and Messes which require to feed large strength of personnel. Also there is a requirement that the food provided is wholesome with the correct nutritional intake. There is thus a requirement of candidates who are qualified/trained in catering services and who will be able to run our Messes.

Qualification  –  10+2 or equivalent exam and Diploma / Certificate Course of a duration of one year or more in Cookery / Hotel Management and Catering Technical from a recognized University / Food Craft Institute. AICTE recognition is not mandatory.

Age  –  21-27 Yrs.

Recruitment Procedure

General As part of the screening process, candidates will be tested in Physical Fitness Tests (PFT).Physical Fitness Tests (PFT) is mandatory and will be carried out for all categories during the screening process of recruitment to assess the candidate’s physical ability and courage.

Test The following tests will be concluded under Physical Fitness Tests (PFT) :

  • 1.6 km run for Endurance.
  • Pull Ups on Beam (Under Grip) for Strength.
  • 9 feet Ditch for Courage.
  • Zig-Zag Balance for Agility.

Medical Standard

  • A candidate should have robust physique and good mental health.
  • Chest should be well developed having minimum 5 cms expansion.
  • Should have normal hearing with each ear and good binocular vision in both eyes. He should be able to read 6/6 in distant vision chart with each eye. Colour vision should be CP – III (able to recognize white, red and green signal colours correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at 1.5 meters).
  • Should have sufficient number of natural healthy gum and teeth i.e. minimum 14 dental points.
  • Should not have diseases like deformity of bones, hydrocele and varicocele or piles.
  • Soldier General Duty for Infantry should have 6/6 eye sight.

How to apply

Interested and eligible candidates have to register themselves online from the official site www.joinindianarmynic.in. The online Indian Army Application form link will be available 2 months before the rally date. Candidates will get 45 days to register or to edit information for the army rally. Two weeks before the Bharti day, the online registration link will be closed and candidates won’t be able to change the information they provided.

Documents required for Online Application

  1. Matric Certificate – The following details will be filled strictly as per matric certificate
    • Candidate Name.
    • Father Name.
    • Mother Name.
    • Date of Birth.
    • Matric Certificate number as issued by Education Board.
  2. Valid E mail address – Each candidate is required to have personal Email Id which will be his user Id. All messages will be sent to the Email Id regarding Short Listing, Call Ups, Joining Instruction, Results, etc.
  3. Mobile Number – Each Candidate will be required to have an individual mobile number. Sharing of mobile number between candidates will not be permitted. OTP key and other message will be sent to mobile number.
  4. Details about your State, District and Tehsil/ Block of Domicile (Only for JCO / OR Enrolment Application).
  5. Scanned passport size photo of size between 10 Kb to 20 Kb in jpg format. This photo will be uploaded on the application form.
  6. Scanned photo of signature of size between 5 Kb to 10 Kb in jpg format. This photo will be uploaded on the application form.
  7. Detailed mark sheet of Class X, and other higher education qualification, required to be filled in the application form as per the eligibility criteria of the category/ entry applied for.
