The Kerala Public Service Commission shortly known as KPSC is a body created by the Constitution of India. The Commission advise the Government on all matters relating to civil services referred to it under Article 320 (3) of the Constitution and publish notifications inviting applications for selection to various posts as per the requisitions of the appointing authorities, conduct written test and/or practical tests, physical efficiency test and interview, prepare ranked list based on the performance of the candidates and advise candidates for appointment strictly based on their merit and observing the rules of reservation as and when vacancies are reported.  The State of Kerala was formed on 1 November 1956 consequent on the Reorganisation of States. It comprises the former Travancore-Cochin State (except the present Kanyakumari District and Shencottah Taluk of the present Tamil Nadu) and the Malabar District and the Kasargod Taluk of South Kanara District of the then composite Madras State.  as a result of the reorganisation of States, the Travancore-Cochin Public Service Commission was transformed into the Kerala Public Service Commission. V.K. Velayudhan was the 1st Chairman of Kerala Public Service Commission. The number of the Members of the Commission was increased to Five in 1959, to Seven in 1971, to Eight in 1981, to Nine in 1982, to Thirteen in 1983, to Fourteen in 1984, to Fifteen in 1984 and to the present strength of Eighteen in 2005.


The duties and functions of the Commission have been laid down in Art. 320 of the constitution of India and Kerala Public Service Commission Rules of Procedure ( come into force from 16th day of August 1976).

1. Recruitment to services & posts under the state through conduct of competitive examinations. This is the regular mode of recruitment where an examination is conducted followed by an interview.

2. Recruitment to services & posts under the kerala Government by direct selection This type of recruitment is done to fill immediate/ irregular job vacancies. It is general done through direct interviews, but sometimes, a written test is conducted preceding the interview.

3. Advising on the suitability of officers for appointment on promotion as well as transfer-on-deputation

4. Advising the Government on all matters relating to methods of Recruitment to various services and posts

5. Disciplinary cases relating to different civil services and

6. Miscellaneous matters relating to grant of extra ordinary pensions, reimbursement of legal expenses etc. ..

7. Kerala PSC advising the government to appoint qualified professional for various posts, through rank list which is created by PSC from top scorers in written, practical and physical examinations.

Assistant/ Junior Assistant/1st Division Assistant/2nd Division Assistant  :  All Candidates Should Must Pass Any Degree form a form a recognised university in India.

Age Limit :   18 – 35 years.

Higher Secondary School Teacher :  Master’s Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from any of the  Universities  in  Kerala  or a Qualification recognised as equivalent thereto in the respective  subject  by  any  University in Kerala. B.Ed  in  the  concerned  subject acquired after a regular course of study from any of the  Universities  in  Kerala  or  a  qualification  recognised  as  equivalent  thereto by a University in Kerala.

Age limit :  20 ­- 45 Years

Veterinary Surgeon :   1) A Degree in Veterinary Science from a recognized University. 2) Registration  with  the  Kerala  State  Veterinary  Council as envisaged in the Indian  Veterinary  Council  Act  1984  (Central Act of 52 of 1984) 3) Working  knowledge  in  Malayalam  Relaxation from the above qualification under item (3) shall be given to persons belonging to Linguistic Minorities in the  state  subject  to the condition that they shall pass the language test in Malayalam  as  provided  in  clause  (aaaa)  of  Rule  10 of Part II of the Kerala State & Subordinate Service Rule 1958.

Age limit :  18 -­ 44 Years

Lift Operator  :  Pass in standard VII with not less than 6 months experience as Lift Operator.

Age limit :  18-50 Years

Lower Division Compiler/Investigator :  Pass in SSLC or equivalent examination with not less than 60 % marks in Mathematics  OR  A computer certificate ABC of the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta OR A National Diploma in Commerce.

Age limit :  18-40 Years

Telephone Operator :  Pass in SSLC with not less than 6 months experience in Operating Telex System.

Draftsman Grade II/Town Planning Surveyor Grade II :

1. Pass in SSLC or its equivalent qualification.

2. Must possess any of the qualifications mentioned below:

(a) Diploma in Civil Engineering (2 years course) of Women’s Polytechnic


 (b) Group Certificate under KGTE or MGTE (Group Certificate will include all the four groups viz. Building drawing, Building Constructions, Survey and Irrigation)


(c) Pass in the following 8 subjects under KGTE/MGTE  viz : (1) Surveying and Levelling (Higher) (2) Applied Mechanics (Higher) (3) Building materials and Construction (Higher) (4) Hydraulics and Irrigation (Higher) (5) Buidling, Drawing and Estimating (Higher) (6) Earthwork and Road Making (Higher) (7) Geometrical Drawing (Lower) (8) Mensuration (Lower)

Age limit :  18 – 41 years

Lecturer  :  1 Master’s Degree in the concerned subject or discipline with atleast 50% mark or its equivalent and good Academic records. (G.O(P)No.115/2008/H.Edn. Dated: 27.09.2008) 2 M.Ed Degree with not less than 55% marks. (G.O(P)No.102/2011//H.Edn. Dated: 19.07.2011)

Three years teaching experience in School or Colleges after acquiring the Professional qualifications . Must have passed the comprehensive test specifically conducted for the purpose by UGC or any agency duly constituted by the State Government in this behalf. When qualifications are being equal, preference shall be given to candidates who possess adequate knowledge in Malayalam.

The Admit card is available 15 -20 days before the commencement of exam. The Admit Card  can be downloaded through the official website by following few easy steps :

  •  Then Enter your Detail, for example, Registration number and DOB and afterward Submit it.
  • The Admit card will show up on the workstation screen.
  • Take a print out for future utilization.


The latest result of Kerala Public Service Commission exam can be checked from the official site. Every year lacs of Candidates appears in the written examination conducted by the Kerala PSC for the recruitment process. The exam is conducted at various centres across the state.  The Commission conducts Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personal Interview for the Recruitment process.  Only those candidates who are declared to have qualified in the Preliminary Examination are declared to be eligible for admission to the Main Examination for that year.  The Main Examination comprises of written examination and personal interview.  The writtten exam consists of four compulsary papers (General English, General Essay, General Studies I, General Studies II) carrying 100 marks each and two optional subjects of two papers of 100 marks each.  Personal Interview also carry 100 marks.


After the successful completion of the written exam the commission releases the Answer key officially in its website so that the candidates can cross check their answer and predicts their scores in the exam.  Candidates can download these Answer keys directly from the main site of Kerala PSC.


Cutoff of Kerala PSC exam will be evaluated on many factors some of factors are mentioned below :

  • Number of Candidate appeared for the Kerala PSC exam.
  • No of candidates passed the exam.
  • Difficulty level of question paper.

Merit list is prepared by the Commission after the commencement of Main Examination.  On the basis of  result of Main Examination the Officials of the Organization prepared a Merit list of Candidates who have been selected for the Interview process.  The merit list is released in the official site of Kerala Public Service Commission.  The candidates can check their Roll numbers and names and appear for the interview to the mentioned address.


The Sore Card means the Final result.  The Score is prepared on the basis of evaluation of Candidates’ performance in the main examination and Interview.  Those who qualifies both the stages are finally declared to be selected by the Commission.  The candidates can check their score card from the official site of Kerala Public Service commission by entering their Roll numbers and Date of birth correctly.
