The Meghalaya Police is the law enforcement agency for the state of Meghalaya in India. It was earlier part of the Assam Police until 1972 when the separate State of Meghalaya was created. The Meghalaya Police is headed by the Director General of Police. The Total Sanctioned Strength of Meghalaya Police is 12,911 personnel, with an actual strength of 10,956. All serve in various positions .The headquarters of the Meghalaya Police is located on the Secretariat Hill, Shillong. The Primary Objectives of Meghalaya Police is as follows : (1) To emerge as the trusted, dependable and resolute Law Enforcement Agency of the State. (2) To maintain public order through Community Participation. (3) To collect and communicate actionable intelligence affecting the public peace and tranquility. (4) To prevent the commission of offenses and public nuisances. (5) To detect and bring offenders to justice by adopting scientific methods and technology and to apprehend all persons whom he is legally authorized to apprehend with absolute respect to Human Rights. The following shall be the eligibility criteria for recruitment to various posts:
1. Only Indian Citizens domiciled in Meghalaya are eligible to apply.
2. Candidates should be able to speak read and write at least one of the regional languages of the State.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :–
For Asst Jailors & Commandos : Degree passed in any stream.
For Warders/Naik : Matric/SSLC Passed and above.
For Driver/Barbers/ /cooks/ Electrician cum Plumbers : Class 8 passed and above.
AGE LIMIT :–
- A candidate for Asst Jailors should not be less than 22 years and more than 27 years as on with usual relaxation of 5 years in case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST.
- A candidate for other categories should not be less than 18 years and more than 27 years with usual relaxation of 5 years in case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST.
SELECTION PROCEDURE :–
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in –
- Physical test
- Medical test
- Written examination
- Personal interview
SYLLABUS FOR THE WRITTEN EXAM :–
Logical Reasoning/Mental Ability.
Assam History,Geography and polity
Economy of Assam.
General Awareness/General Knowledge.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS :–
Male (ST including Other tribes of Meghalaya) – 162 Cm
Male (Others) – 167 Cm
Female (ST including Other tribes of Meghalaya) – 157 Cm
Female (Others) -160 Cm
PHYSICAL MEASUREMENT TEST (PMT) :-
Candidates should bring the temporary admit cards to appear for the PMT. Candidates who do not meet the standards of minimum Height requirement as prescribed will be rejected and further test events of such rejected candidates will not be conducted.
Candidates should bring the following documents with them at the time of appearing for the tests:
1 . Original SC/ST Certificates for SC/ST candidates.
2. Original Birth Certificate of HSLC/SSLC Certificates, or their equivalent testifying the date of birth..
3. Original education Qualification Certificates/ Additional Qualifications Certificates.
4. Pen Clipboard. Short Pants, Canvas Shoes, etc.
5. Copy of treasury challan.
PHYSICAL TESTS :–
8oo metres for male minimum required 8 minutes and 500 metres under video coverage and for female candidates minimum 8 minutes under Video coverage.
CONDUCT OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION :–
Only those candidates who qualify in the Physical Efficiency Tests will be allowed to appear at the Written Examination which will be conducted at the time, venue and date to be notified by the Central Recruitment Board.
MEDICAL TEST :–
Medical Tests will be conducted only in respect of Candidates who have been selected for appointment. No fees will be paid by any candidate for medical examination.
TEST FOR SPECIALIZED JOBS :–
The Central Recruitment Board will conduct specific trade tests of qualifying nature for those candidates who have qualified in the written tests for selection of drivers, mechanics.
BONUS MARKS :–
The following categories of candidates shall be awarded 5 bonus marks which will be added to their total score: (i) Home Guards Volunteers (ii) Holders of a ‘B’ ‘C’ certificate of National Cadet Corps (iii) Children of Non-gazetted police personnel of Meghalaya Police. (iv) Sports persons who have represented the State at the national level. All claims for bonus marks should be indicated in the application form and supported with copies of documents in support of such claims. Original certificates from the competent authority shall be produced by the candidates claiming bonus marks, to verify the eligibility of candidates to these claims.
RECRUITMENT BOARD :–
Police Establishment Board shall act as Recruitment Board. To Conduct Physical Test/ Written Test and Interview, Officers will be appointed and these Officers will submit the results to Police Establishment Board in order of Merit for Final Approval.
DECLARATION OF RESULT :–
After the approval of the Police Establishment Board, result will be tentatively declared.
After all the formalities appointment shall be issued by the appropriate appointing authority.
BASIC TRAINING :–
As Police training is compulsory for any Police Personnel newly appointed, all the appointed candidates should undergo basic training at Police Training School, at the first convenient time. Candidates who has been selected and cannot join the Training Centre within one month of the commencement of training for any reason shall be cancelled and shall forfeit the job.
WHO CAN APPLY :–
Candidates fulfilling all the eligibility standards mentioned in the Notification can apply for the Meghalaya Police Recruitment’s before the last date whichever is mentioned in the Notification.
HOW TO APPLY :–
Applications has to be submitted in the PRESCRIBED printed FORM. Candidates who are Indian citizens and who are domiciled in the State of Meghalaya has to fill up the under mentioned categories of vacancies. Application forms will be available through offices of all District Superintendents of Police and Commandants of MLP Battalions and Principal, PTS Mawroh Shillong on payment of Rs. 50/- (Rupees Fifty Only). The applications has to be reached before the last date whatsoever is mentioned in the notification. The application form should be submitted along with attested copies of the following:
i. 4 (four) recent passport size photographs.
ii. S.T./ S.C. Certificate – for S.T./ S.C. candidates as applicable.
iii. Age certificate as per HSLC/SSLC Certificates/Admit Cards or their equivalent certificate testifying the date of birth/age.
iv. Educational Qualification certificates.
v. Additional qualification, if any.
NOTE :– A candidate with a history of criminal activities, bad reputations in the Society and having reputation of addiction to drug or alcohol should not be appointed after written verification is received from the concerned Police Station.
