The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formerly known as National Open School (NOS) was established in November,1989 as an autonomous organisation in pursuance of National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), Government of India. NIOS is providing a number of Vocational, Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at Secondary and Senior Secondary level.   It also offers Elementary level Courses through its Open Basic Education Programmes (OBE).  The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) provides opportunities to interested learners by making available the following Courses/Programmes of Study through open and distance learning (ODL) mode.  NIOS operates through a network of five Departments, Regional Centres and Accredited Institutions (Study Centres) in India and abroad. It has a current enrolment of about 2.71 million students at Secondary, Senior Secondary & Vocational levels which makes it the largest open schooling system in the world.


The Academic Department and the Vocational Education Department can be said to be the two most important departments of the NIOS. These two departments develop education programmes and/or courses to give opportunity to the learners to pursue the course of learning of their choice. Both the departments collaborate with each other to develop functional and need/based courses to benefit the learners.

SECONDARY COURSE  :  This Course is equivalent to the Xth standard. You can choose subjects from the Scheme of Studeies given in Table-. However, you will be required to successfully complete a minimum of five subjects with atleast one language or atmost two languages, which is compulsory for certification.

SENIOR SECONDRY COURSE  :  This Course is designed for those who have passed the Xth standard or equivalent examination from a recognised Board and would like to continue their education towards a Senior Secondary Certification, equivalent to XII standard.


For obtaining a pass certificate, you are required to pass in a minimum of five subjects including one or maximum of two languages from Group ‘A’ and other three or four subjects from Group ‘B’. However, you are free to take upto two additional subjects. Thus, in all you can choose a maximum of seven subjects.

Students can download the NIOS Online Admit Card 2016 for 10th and 12th Class final Exams from the official site by following simple steps :

  • Log in to National Institute of Open Schooling official Website of .
  • Select the Secondary Intimation/Hall Ticket for April 2016 Exams .
  • Submit your Roll Number and Answer the Security Question .
  • Click the Submit Button then it will be Displayed .

Save it or Click on Print Option to take online Roll Number Printout. After Successfully taken a Copy of Printout read the instructions carefully and attend examination center in before one hour of the test timings to report Supervisor of center with printable copy of NIOS online Admit Card 2016 for both of Secondary and Sr.Secondary final Examination test center for General and Vocational Course. Students keep the Printable Roll Number slip to use further assistance of Check results and more further assistance.
